Celebrating The Weekend with brunch in Piccolino Knutsford
I worked weekends for 11 years. On the shop floor, from the age of 16. I knew no different, and to be totally honest, I loved it. Saturday was busy, buzzing, my favourite day of the working week. The day would fly by, we would enjoy all our customers lovely laid-back weekend vibes. When the clock struck 6pm it would be a mad rush to get ready for a night out, which usually just involved a higher pair of heels and a little extra lippy.
These days though, I don’t work weekends. And with Colin off work too, Archie coming to stay and now my precious days with Ollie, they’ve become somewhat of a celebration. Even when we have nothing planned at all (in fact I think they might just be my favourite weekends of all!!) I just adore those two wonderful days at the end of the week.
We usually aim to start our day with a big celebratory breakfast, although we often spend too long lazing in bed, drink coffee and playing games as a family that we’re not up and about until closer to brunch time.
Thats what inspired me to write this post. On those mornings when we really feel like we want to start the day with a celebration, we know EXACTLY where we’re headed for brunch…Piccolino in Knustford .
Piccolino is an Italian chain (find your nearest one HERE), but the restaurant in Knutsford is BY FAR the best one we’ve tried!! The light airy decor, the white washed floorboards, the smell of Italy that hits you as soon as you walk through the door…It’s hard to beat.
If you love Italy, as we do, you simply MUST have your meal on the sun-trap of a roof terrace. The serive is always exceptional. Manager Marco, goes out of his way to make a fuss of Archie and Ollie. They’re always so disappointed if he’s not working when we visit.
That leads me on the my next point about this place, which is that it’s surprisingly baby/child friendly. Plenty of highchairs, attentive staff that help you fold up your buggy and store it safely or rearrange the seating to make space for your pram. The baby changing facilities, while tiny, are genuinely amazing. They’ve thought of everything and theres a whole stash of spare nappies in all sizes, wipes, creams and paper towels. Not what you’d expect from the local ‘Housewives of Cheshire’ hangout.
That said, the music is cool and contemporary, with a DJ on the terrace from midday at the weekends and every evening. There’s almost always some kind of flash Lamborghini parked outside and the Champagne corks keep popping from about 11am. It feels like a treat, not your usual Italian chain.
So, I snapped our way through brunch last weekend, just to give you an idea of what to expect. To be honest, I’m sure I’ll review lunch and dinner at some point too, because I promise you that if you visit here, you’ll thank me! 😉
So, last Sunday brunch…
We always book a table on the terrace, even if it’s not that warm the heaters work brilliantly and it’s just a gorgeous bright and airy space. But on a hot day, you’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Capri, with the oak and canvas chairs, fresh white tables and creaky boat-like floor boards. They’ve thought of everything, even the nautical stripe blankets strewn over the chairs should you feel the chill in the evening.
The coffee is almost as good as Italy, thick, dark and rich. Colin has Espresso and I have flat white, it’s consistently good.
Mama’s, treat yourself to a Mimosa, its SO BLOODY LOVELY!! And at only £8, it will get your weekend off to the best start!
Everything on the brunch menu is scrumptious, believe me, we’ve tried it all!
This weekend, we went for Eggs Royal and Eggs Benedict. It’s the little things like consistently good eggs that make the difference here. Lashings of black pepper for me, and and extra serving of toasted ciabatta for Col and we’re good to go! 🙂
