Meet Our Little Ollie
Well Hello World!
We’re so incredibly happy to introduce to you at last…Our sweet little Oliver James Gordon.
He finally arrived at 6.30pm on Monday 20th July 2015 (5 days late) weighing a healthy 8lbs 4oz.
We call him ‘Ollie’.
This post could quite easily be my most soppy ever…so I’ll try my best to hold it together :-/
It’s hard to believe that more than two weeks has past already. The time has gone so quickly, but in the same breath, I can’t imagine life without our tiny prince.
The first two weeks of motherhood have been a whirlwind. Sleepless nights, intense emotions, recovery, round-the-clock-nursing, visitors, laughs, tears…but mostly just overwhelming love…Oh the LOVE!!!
The moment I set eyes on him…there are no words to describe it…but I knew that this was it.
It’s what all mothers try to explain but can’t quite articulate. A love so strong, so unconditional and consuming, something that really can’t be put into words. It’s like this whole other piece of my (already full) heart opened up for him.
I will never forget that first glimpse of his tiny face laying on my chest, fresh into the world. We had tried to imagine what he would look like, blonde or dark, big or small, but as soon as I saw him, he was so familiar, he was perfect and looked just like my heart knew he would.
Just like that, he was my reason, my whole world right there looking back at me.
The last two weeks have been the most precious and magical of my life.
The tiredness has been far outweighed by the magic of his little life in ours.
His sweet smell, his soft skin, those tiny fingers and toes…it’s pure deliciousness!!
The house is full of flowers and cards. A thoughtful gift has arrived in the post almost every day. We really do feel so incredibly blessed.
So, to celebrate the arrival of Our Little Ollie, here are some snap-shots of his first 16days in the world….
The labour didn’t go exactly to plan.
I had wished for a water birth, as natural as possible.
On saturday 18th (3 days after our due date) my waters broke, but labour didn’t kick in.
After 24hours of walking and bouncing on a birthing ball trying to get things started naturally, I was induced, which brought on quite a few complications. I’ll spare you all the details.
I still look back on the whole experience with love hearts in my eyes.
Colin was AMAZING, I really felt he was there with me through the entire thing. Never underestimate the role of your birthing partner. He kept me so strong.
After 2 days in hospital (which actually felt like just a few hours), we had our beautiful baby boy in our arms. What people say is so true…I would do it all again tomorrow…
Meeting Grandma for the first time.
Despite the drama, we were allowed to go home the following evening. Welcoming Ollie into his home was surreal, almost dream-like. Standing in his nursery, holding him in my arms was one of the best moments of my life.
That first night together, Colin and I hardly slept. We couldn’t stop staring at him fast asleep in his moses basket.
He slept for 6hours straight that night…and that was the last time he’s done such a thing!!
Waking up to his sweet face that first morning was bliss…
Since then, he’s been nursing like a champion and is gaining weight quickly.
Archie is totally smitten, and is already the best big brother.
We know he loves milk, cuddles and warm baths…the rest we are still learning…

We are really excited to see what the next few days, months, years have in store for us as we enjoy our precious gift and life as a family of four.
